In a much anticipated grudge rematch. A fight to settle the score, it was another disaster technical draw after another clash of heads. Both fighters were on the receiving end of cuts as both fighters heads came together in round four. Here is how the fight played out.
Round one looked like it may be a cagey opener. Each fighter jerked and fainted to steal a jab here and there. Flynn was that little bit sharper with the jab but Collins was not too far away from landing some powerful counter hooks. However “The Mailman” countered a counter, pulling back from a hook and sending Collins crashing into the ropes with a right hook. The Irvine fighter quickly rose to his feet looking more embarrassed than hurt to survive the round.
Flynn showed little urgency to go for the stoppage in round two opting to box safe behind a high guard. Accuracy and timing was key for him in this round. He stuck to simple boxing, straight shots then moving his feet out of range to avoid the counters. His opponent tried to counter with hooks but his timing seemed off.
Round three was more of the same. Flynn boxing and moving well bringing in the right hands counters behind the jab and Collins whiskers away with counter hooks. There was a glimpse and a warning of what was the come as both fighters were warned for clashing heads.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games champion was sticking to simple boxing in round four again. In and out with straight punches. Collins spurred on by his army of Ayrshire support had some success with the left hook. Just when it started to heat up again both fighters clashed heads and blood oozed from both men. With the round nearly over the referee waved the fight off to the anger of fans. It is bemusing that the referee did not allow the fighters to finish the round, so the fight could go to the scorecards. Instead there was an unsatisfactory Technical draw to which the fans voiced their dissatisfaction, booing from the rafters.
It seems the two fighters and their clashing styles are destined to end up in a messy fight.
